"Climbing Mount Everest is a formidable feat even for trekkers in peak physical condition. So imagine trying to scale the mountain in a wheelchair or without a limb. This inspiring documentary follows 14 disabled climbers and a support team as they attempt to reach the base camp of Mount Everest. Intercutting breathtaking views of the Himalayas are frank interviews with team members, who describe their injuries, disabilities, and reasons for making the trip. The experienced leader, who lost his arm in a hiking accident, encourages and protects the enthusiastic but vulnerable group. Hardest to accept for wheelchair participants is the necessity of having Sherpas carry them when they are unable to navigate the treacherous paths. Showing unbelievable courage and determination, most of the group members achieve their goals and set new records. Reminiscent of Farther Than the Eye Can See (2007), about the first blind climber to successfully tackle Mount Everest, this is also a testimony to the power of the human spirit." — Candace Smith, Booklist Magazine (American Library Association) Published December 15, 2008
